Ten Ideas for Mental Stimulation in Quarantine
If you read this blog regularly, you know that we usually cover issues related to the health and wellness of your feet, ankles, and lower legs. Today, however, we want to talk about emotional well-being. Maintaining a positive outlook can be challenging after weeks at home, particularly if you’re alone. Depression and anxiety can creep in. Fortunately, there are things that you can do to stay connected and engaged. Here are ten suggestions from Anne Arundel County podiatrist Dr. James M. McKee:
Investigate new technology. Platforms like Skype, Zoom, and FaceTime make it easy to “see” friends and family.
Make an appointment to visit virtually with someone you love, and stick to it. This is a great opportunity to catch up with distant relatives and long-lost friends.
Learn something new. There are so many how-to videos on YouTube! Learn to bake a soufflé or teach yourself a few simple phrases in American Sign Language. The possibilities are endless.
Visit someplace you’ve always wanted to go. Many museums and tourism councils are offering free tours online.
Finish your needlepoint or sewing. Pull that half-finished project out of the back of your closet.
Read the classics. Never got around to Jane Eyre or Wuthering Heights? Sign up for a library card and check out an e-book today.
Are you quarantined with family members? Order a new board game online and play today.
You know that television show that everyone else watched but you didn’t? Here’s your chance to binge-watch all seasons and have something to talk about when you get back to the office.
Write some postcards or letters and send them. Take your time and make it fun. Decorate the envelopes with magic markers or stickers if you have them.
Do you collect something? Spend a few minutes online searching and imagining a new addition to your collection, even if you decide not to buy it.
