You might think that Valentine’s Day is only a day for romance, but, at Podiatry Group of Annapolis, P.A., we believe that it’s a day to celebrate all of your important relationships…including your relationship with your feet! Think of all the things that your feet do for you. They make it possible for you to stand and walk upright, to go about all of your daily activities, and to exercise. Isn’t it time that you did something to show them some love? Here are three suggestions from Dr. James M. McKee:

  1. Take a walk! Regular exercise is the best thing you can do to maintain the health of the 26 bones, 33 joints, and hundreds of muscles, tendons, ligaments, and other soft tissue structures in each of your feet. Download a podcast, make a date with a friend, or head out with Fido to make it extra fun. Chilly out there? Bundle up and go anyway.

  2. Eating for heart health will improve foot health. Drink plenty of water daily. Limit your intake of salt and processed foods, which can be high in sodium. Stick to whole grains, lean sources of protein, low-fat dairy foods, and lots of fruits and vegetables.

  3. Diabetes can have a significant impact on foot health. Talk to your doctor about your risk and get tested today. If you have been diagnosed with this whole-body illness, follow your doctor’s instructions carefully and take all medications exactly as prescribed.

Of course, the best way to say Happy Valentine’s Day to your feet, ankles, and lower legs is by taking them on a “date” to see your podiatrist. Your foot doctor is a medical specialist, and the best-qualified doctor to care for this part of your body. Schedule an appointment to see James M. McKee, DPM, FACFAS in Podiatry Group of Annapolis, P.A.’s modern, comfortable office on Solomons Island Road today. Call our friendly staff at 410-224-4448 or click here to get started.
