What Are Orthotics?

McKee and Dr. Adam Weaver, orthotics are medical devices that can improve function and increase comfort, stability, and mobility. Orthotics are appropriate for men, women, and children of all ages. They are a non-invasive treatment option and slip into your shoes to provide cushioning and/or support.
There are two types of orthotics:
Abnormal motion is best controlled with the use of functional orthotics. These rigid devices, usually made of plastic or graphite, may be used to treat foot pain or correct an atypical gait. They are also used to treat injuries, such as shin splints or tendinitis.
For patients with diabetes or painful calluses, accommodative orthotics may be a better option. These are softer and provide necessary cushioning and support.
